History and Origins
In the early 1950s, Chew Lam Kee and his wife began fishing for a living, selling their catch to nearby wet markets to support their family. Due to financial hardships, joined him from a young age, often heading out to sea in the middle of the night on small sampans to catch prawns and fish.
Guided by their father’s wisdom that “life is like fishing—refine your skills, explore uncharted waters, and seize the opportunities others overlook,” The brothers took a bold step to evolve the family trade. In 1974, he ventured beyond traditional fishing and established Lam Kee’s seafood business. What began as a modest operation has since grown into one of Southeast Asia’s leading distributors of premium frozen seafood.
